New town, new me?

Well, not really a new me, but let me explain.

A month ago, I moved from the only place I’ve ever known and spent my entire life. It might help if I share a little about myself. I was born and raised in Sacramento, California and am 32 years old. Never been married and no children. I was the third child in a family of four children, but am now a little sister to two older siblings, a big sister to a younger brother and three half siblings along with a stepsister and an aunt to my only lovable niece.

I now live in Charlotte, North Carolina. The weather’s different, the people are different, the culture is different, so you ask, why move across the country? Simple. Family. Yep. I never considered myself family oriented and my number one priority. Growing up, a successful career was my top priority, which to me, meant an earned higher education and a financially wealthy job. I hate to admit it, but I was wrong. Don’t get me wrong though, those things are important, but family is the one steady aspect in life that will help you achieve all the other important aspects in life. Family is not only defined by blood, but includes those who are always there for you no matter what. Of course, we all know those claimed family members who leach off your success. Those, we can forget and toss off into the darkness where things go to die. Harsh, but true.

Okay, so in the past, I’ve visited Charlotte a handful of times since I was in high school and have never seen myself living here. Just a few years ago, my older siblings along with my younger brother moved here to help raise my half siblings. That story will follow another time. Anyways, they also needed a fresh start due to some family drama. I stayed behind in Sacramento because for the first time in my life, I felt like everything had finally fallen in place for me. I had a respected and well-paying job. I had overcame my personal demons. I was truly happy for the first time, in a long time. Little did I know, that it was only temporary and I would end up here, starting a new adventure.

My new adventure includes starting a blog about my experiences and trying something new. I’ve always enjoyed writing and hope to write a book one day about what growing up was like for me. I also enjoy creative writing and hope to use this blog as an outlet to get back into it. People always ask me what my hobbies are and I always felt like I never had the right answer. You’re probably now thinking and either questioning me or your own hobbies, what’s the wrong answer? I define a hobby as something you enjoy doing in your spare time as most people do, but exercising isn’t really a hobby, it’s more of a lifestyle. You can enjoy exercising, but shouldn’t list it as a hobby. Of course, I have other hobbies which include hiking, bird watching, singing and photography with a few others.

Anyways, thanks for reading. I’ve got a lot to share and learn, especially on keeping up a blog. Nevertheless, I’m excited to start a new me.
